In order to meet the goal laid out at the Copenhagen Climate Conference in 2009 of limiting the increase in global temperature to 2 degrees Celsius, an additional $1.4 trillion in investment for industrial efficiency improvements will be needed by 2035, beyond what countries have already pledged. Additionally, some $640 billion of investment for carbon capture and sequestration technology would be required. Total investment in the industrial sector required to meet the Copenhagen goal is equivalent to 0.3% of the cumulative value added in the industry sector by 2035.
